living spaces were designed to make downtown liv-
ing “elegant and urbane.” Amenities include a fitness
center, a party room, a screening room, and a Scan-
dinavian-inspired sauna and spa area. Perhaps the
Mercer’s most stunning feature is a 10,000 square
foot terrace on the building’s sixth floor that includes
private lounges, a games area, a kitchen and dining
area, an outdoor movie viewing wall, and a long reflect-
ing pool. In addition, views of the Toronto Skyline are
equally compelling whether one looks east or west.
With a portfolio this extensive, how does Beaverhall
Homes maintain its consistently high level of qual-
ity? Paul Chianelli is a General Manager at Beaverhall
Homes. He describes Ami Tamam’s building acumen
as well as his business philosophy: “He always looks
for good pieces [of property] and good locations and
he always stands behind building a quality product
for the customers and for himself. And he takes pride
in what he builds. He actually takes the time to walk
through all of the buildings and all of the houses to
make sure they’re built to his satisfaction.”
Ami Tamam, himself, is proud of his hands-on approach
and feels that is what differentiates his company from
other builders: “First of all, I’m on site all the time,” he
says. “You won’t find another builder in Toronto who
walks through the units. I walk all the units, I walk all the
houses. I watch through the construction, through the fin-
ishing, and I try to bring to the customer the best house
I can, like I was building it for myself.” Chianelli elabo-
rates on Ami Tamam’s on-site supervision of contractors
and laborers: “When it comes to trades, he picks quality
trades. He may pay a little bit more to somebody because
he knows they’ll do a quality job. It’s not always about the
cheapest price. It’s all about quality.”
