Here we are, heading into the fall quarter of another unbelievably challenging year with wheels spinning and plans in progress for what promises to be a positive 2022. That’s the glass-half-full mindset I’m choosing to work with – I think it’s rubbed off on me after hearing from so many business and community leaders who are just super-focused on innovation, corporate culture, technology enhancement, workforce development… Yes, many valuable lessons have been learned from the pandemic, but one thing that hasn’t come out of it is a “woe is me” attitude. It’s all about resiliency, recovery, and getting on with the job at hand. Creating the best life we can for ourselves and each other. This issue of Business View North America delivers an entertaining and eclectic compilation of industry sectors – from innovative, ice-cold beer offerings, courtesy the Alaskan Brewing Company, to a legacy of healthy hand washing with “The Original” Bradford Soap Works, Inc.– a firm that’s focused on hygiene and the enormous effect cleansing has on improving global health. In the petroleum sector, PEMY Consulting embraces data analysis for modeling climate effects, such as hurricanes, on terminal facilities, and establishing appropriate design criteria called ‘recurrence intervals’ for serious natural disaster events like high winds, extreme rainfall, flooding, and earthquakes. When it comes to high-end residential construction, Murray Homes (Sarasota, Florida based) and Kill Mountain Building Co. (Hebron, New Hampshire) lead their respective regions in custom design/builds. For Sippican Partners Construction (Ashland, NH) It’s about a delicate balance that supports building construction, local economic development, and the environmental preservation of the area. In the Greater Toronto Area, Torcom Construction is winning awards for handling multi-million dollar general contracting projects, and Weston Forest Products, one of Canada’s largest distributors of softwood, hardwood, and specialty forest products, takes kudos as a Best Managed and Fastest Growing Company. South of the border, Matt Laricy and his firm “Laricy” is going above and beyond with high-end real estate sales in downtown Chicago. Of course, buying, selling, and building of properties requires the support of a good trustworthy bank. In Georgia, Planters First Bank and Georgia Community Bank are those go-to providers for business and personal financial services. On the conference and events front, New York’s amazing Albany Capital Center expects that finding way back to normal, post-pandemic, will be an exercise in patience, noting, “It’s a domino effect that is going to take everything from the travel industry to the hotel industry to reset itself.” The Aviation industry is also navigating changes, as tourism begins to soar again. So, we visited a group of diverse regional airports to get their unique perspectives on what lies ahead: Ketchikan International Airport (Alaska), Cedar City Regional Airport (Utah), Lynchburg Regional Airport (Virginia), A.L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport (Texas), Jefferson County Airpark (Ohio), Thomasville Regional Airport (Georgia), Wheeling Ohio County Airport (West Virginia), San Luis Valley Regional Airport (Colorado). I hope you find lots of take-aways to ponder in our features this month. Enjoy the read!
