88 89 HALDIMAND COUNTY, ONTARIO Haldimand County, Ontario A GRAND EXPERIENCE H aldimand County is a rural, city-status, single-tier municipality of 46,000 on the Niagara Peninsula in Southern Ontario, Canada, 20 kilometers south of Hamilton. First created in 1783, it was named after the governor of the Province of Quebec, Sir Frederick Haldimand. It was first incorporat- ed in 1850 and amalgamated into a single-tier authority in 2001. The main population centers in Haldimand County are Caledonia, Dunnville, Hagersville, Jarvis, and Cayuga.
